Is LG's flexible phone about to get an international launch?

The LG G Flex is currently only available in South Korea but its makers have just announced a special Hong Kong event on December 3 where a global launch is expected to be announced.
The phone, which features a curved screen -- a feature which is already leading some in the tech world to dub it the banana phone -- also features a self-healing coating on its casing that magically repairs scratches.
Launched in LG's native South Korea in November, Orange has since confirmed that the handset will be going on sale in France before the end of the year and more recent reports suggest that at least three network operators will be selling the phone in the US in 2014.
However, until now, LG itself has remained quiet on the subject of wider availability, yet has gone to great lengths to demonstrate why the phone's unusual shape is not simply a gimmick.
There's little doubt that as battery and processor technology catches up with flexible screen capabilities, bendable, foldable phones and tablets will become must-have items -- who wouldn't want a 21-inch tablet that could be rolled up and dropped into a handbag?
But for now, they're little more than a curiosity and a glimpse of what a flexible future may hold. Samsung has also launched a flexible phone, which is also restricted to South Korea. Called the Galaxy Round, it curves from side to side, like a half-finished cylinder, rather than from end to end, and while both phones have similar internal specifications, it's LG's device that seems to have captured the public's imagination.

The biggest laptop from the New 2013 Dell Inspiron 7000

This MacBook-inspired laptop form Dell has a forged aluminum design with diamond-cut beveled edges give you a solid, sturdy feel while handling. The Inspiron 14 measures just over half and inch thickness which is 27% thinner than the previous-generation Inspiron laptop 14z.
With the latest Fall-2013 lineup, Dell is (thankfully) introducing a simple three tier concept: good (3000 series), better (5000 series) and best (7000 series). Today, we’ll look at the new 7000 series from across the different sizes and give you the best coupon and cost breakdown.

Flipping the cover of the Inspiron 7000 you’ll see the aluminum keys which are backlit and also spill-proof, a spacious palm rest, and a generous-sized trackpad. Running on Windows 8, the Inspiron 7000 sports Intel’s 4th generation Core i5 or i7 processors which are more powerful, have significantly improved Intel HD graphics, and at the same time energy-efficient. A 6GB RAM comes standard with 500GB HDD + 32GB SSD hybrid storage.

If you EVER try to buy a computer from Dell’s newly redesigned website, you’ll probably be confused right off the bat by the multitude of products and models offered. Dell has so many different variations just for the Inspirion series laptops alone… There’s the Inspirion R, Inspirion Z, etc.

There’s a site-wide Dell $50 off coupon which was released on Black Friday, and it currently works on all Inspiron 7000 series laptops. Use coupon number: HF08ZLDCXJM19W (expires this weekend)

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's Competition Bureau said on Friday it would allow Canadian telecom company Telus Corp to buy all of struggling startup Public Mobile.
Industry Minister James Moore had approved the sale last month, saying it would not hurt consumers. The Conservative government is eager to boost competition in the wireless sector.
"The Bureau will continue to closely monitor the evolution of competition in Canada's wireless telecommunications industry and take action where appropriate," Commissioner of Competition John Pecman said in a statement.

Lenovo Launches its Multi-mode Yoga Tablet in the Philippines

Tablets have proven themselves worthy of being an alternative to notebooks thanks to their immense portability and ever increasing features and capabilities. Lenovo, the current leader in the PC space, is expanding its reaches to smartphones and tablets with its recent products such as the A3000 tablet and S820 smartphone. Today, Lenovo marks another milestone as it launches the first multi-mode Yoga Tablet in the Philippines. This new tablet brings in a new way to get the most out of people's tablet experience.
The game-changing Yoga Tablet features three usage modes – hold, tilt, and stand modes – to better cater to the different ways on how a tablet is used. With these three modes, the tablet is capable of adapting to the way consumers use it instead of forcing them to adapt to the technology.
One size certainly does not fit all, especially when it comes to tablets. Even though tablets today have different sizes, specs, and what not, all of them have the same look and feel which is in theory a rectangular piece of metal or plastic that has a display and is capable of running applications for either productivity or entertainment. Lenovo breaks the mold on the "sea of sameness" design with the Yoga Tablet's unique modes.
With its exclusive cylindrical handle, hold mode is designed to fit an individual’s hand, so the Yoga Tablet is easier to hold and offers more control over the device whereas other tablets require two hands. Hold mode makes reading, checking social media and browsing the web easy and parallels how people hold magazines when reading.
To convert the Yoga Tablet into stand mode, simply rotate the side cylinder 90° so that the tablet stand deploys, allowing the tablet to stand by itself on a desk or table. Users can change the viewing angle to fit what’s comfortable for them from 110° to 135°. Stand mode makes it easy for users to comfortably watch movies, place video calls and interact with the ten-finger touchscreen without having to rely on add-on accessories.
Users can lay the Yoga Tablet down in tilt mode to type directly on the tablet, play games and just surf the Internet with a better viewing angle. To further enhance the rich content and multi-mode tablet experience, users can enable the tablet’s auto-detection software that automatically brings up frequently used apps in hold and stand modes.
Vinson Chua, 4P Manager for Consumer at Lenovo Philippines, holding the Yoga Tablet using only one hand.
The Yoga Tablet’s multimode design not only provides a better usability experience, it offers dramatically longer battery life of up to 18 hours, which is significantly more than the amount of typical tablets. Its cylindrical handle packs in powerful, dual batteries and unlike most tablets, it uses batteries typically found in laptops. The Yoga Tablet can even charge other devices such as smartphones via its USB OTG. The 10-inch and 8-inch models run on MT8389 Quad Core processors and feature Android 4.2. Also equipped with Dolby audio, Yoga Tablet’s front-facing speakers create a powerful surround sound experience through the device speakers and with headphones.
Extremely mobile, both models are featherweights weighing in at 1.35 lbs for the 10-inch model and 0.88 lbs for the 8-inch model. They feature high definition 1280 x 800 displays, a 5MP AF rear camera, a 1.6MP front camera, 16GB of storage, and Bluetooth 4.0. The 8-in model has WCDMA with phone features, and allows users to make calls and send SMS/MMS. The 10-in Yoga Tablet features WCDMA without phone capabilities.
Lenovo offers an optional Bluetooth keyboard for the 10-in model that functions as a cover and even wakes up the tablet when it’s removed and puts the tablet to sleep when it’s attached.
The 8 inch Yoga Tablet will be available in both black and silver colors, while the 10 inch Yoga Tablet will be available in silver.

Pricing and Availability

SRP is PhP14,999 and PhP16,999, for the 8-inch and 10-inch respectively. Starting December 2013, both models will be available at select Lenovo Exclusive Stores (LES) and Lenovo Mobile Exclusive Store in Gaisano Mall, Davao City.

Philippines gets lag-free video streaming with new 4G tech

In the Philippines, telcos equipped their consumers with LTE connectivity more than a year ago. Now upping the ante against its sole competitor, telco Smart is testing its video multicast on LTE connectivity.
What does this mean? When fully developed, the technology will allow people to watch clear, lag-free live videos on their LTE-capable smartphones and tablets.
It’s also suitable for distributing pre-loaded content like news, music, software, ads, and other data to a mass audience.
Market research firm Effective Measure reports 844 million people viewed YouTube in January 2012. And that was in the early days of LTE. By looking at this number, and given that smartphone penetration is ramping up, such a technology makes good sense for Philippine mobile users.
The technology is called the evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (eMBMS), which taps the functionality and speed of LTE to deliver multimedia content, such as live videos, to a large number of consumers.
This capability will be provided to the telco by China’s Huawei, and is touted as a first for Southeast Asia.
Apart from Smart in the Philippines, major telecoms in Korea also expressed interest in eMBMS technology earlier this year, according to Huawei.
While there is no news yet as to when this will be rolled out for consumers, the testing phase seems like a sign that something good will come to LTE subscribers in the Philippines.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2: 5.2-inch LCD, 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 8MP rear camera, Android 4.3, 1.5GB RAM
Samsung has once more gone big with its latest smartphone announcement. Introducing several improvements over its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes with the elegance of the Note 3 phablet in a less expensive package.
Whereas the original Galaxy Grand bore resemblance with last year’s Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S3, this second-gen smartphone seems like a hybrid between the Galaxy S4 and Note 3. The display now comes with 720p resolution, up from the lowly 800×480 WVGA. Sadly, only TFT-LCD is employed here, instead of the enhanced Super AMOLED. Among the innards is a quad-core mobile CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, the exact model/brand of which has not been specified.

Sonos Playbar review

Sonos is a brand you would associate with wireless HiFi systems. It’s a popular choice if you want a clean, great-sounding wireless speaker system for your entertainment room. The Sonos Playbar is the first step to that wireless HiFi system and is itself, the wired component of the lot. It situates itself at the base of your TV and will replace the audio output with a better one.

This soundbar is minimalist in design but solidly built giving you that feeling of money well spent. The exterior is covered with a matte cloth which easily attracts dust, on a mostly aluminum finish that should span the whole length of a 40″ TV nicely.

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 is a well-rounded, main stream graphics card capable of delivering greatperformance for its price. The New NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 now comes with 384 CUDA Cores, is built on the award winning NVIDIA Kepler Architecture, the same architecture found on the more expensive GeForce GTX 700 series.
clip_image002
The Kepler-based GK208 GPU is baked into the new NVIDIA GeForce GT series cards which mean the NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 now features 384 CUDA cores, up from the previous model and its 96 cores. The new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 also features a clock speed of 902 MHzIt also supports UltraHD 4K resolutions. Build on the 28nm Kepler GPU architecture, it is up to 40% more power efficient than the previous model, while boosting performance and runs up to 38% faster.
The New NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 takes the gaming to a new level thanks to the cutting edge Microsoft DirectX and NVIDIA PhysX® technology. These two features responsible for realistic effect with tessellation and help create more detailed characters and terrain in games, providing a crisper, lifelike images. With the Adaptive V-Sync and Kepler GPU architecture coupled with the FXAA Anti-Aliasing polishes the rough edges and produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal impact on the performance and allows the players to experience enjoyment without hindrances.
The new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 with 384 CUDA Cores is targeted at HTPC, IPC, SFF and other applications that require quality visual display and dependable graphics computing in a small package.
Specifications:
geforce-gt-630

Performance Comparison

To demonstrate the performance of the new GeForce GT630, we fire up some games and view them on multiple resolutions. We used the Intel HD4000 IGP for this benchmark.
All games are played in two resolutions for reference. The games are set in low settings with no AA. PhysX is enabled for those games that support it.
Battlefield 3 is one of the hottest titles of 2011 and continues to prove itself a worthy game. Based on DICE’s Frostbite Engine 2, this game’s lush details and visuals are just stunning but can really stress any modern GPU.
clip_image002[6]
Out of the gates we see some great performance out of the new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630. A solid 41% improvement on average against the HD4000 for the new GeForce GT 630. The card averages at 50fps nicely and a playable 30fps on 1080p.
The most visually intense game to ever been made. Prophet is back to take on the Ceph and Cell after a long sleep and the world isn’t what it was when before he got frozen. Cry Engine 3 is behind this beautiful beast that will put a lot of systems to their knees.

Oh Crysis 3 is a monster game and this test shows. The game taxes the system to unplayable level in 1080p but the new GT630 still manages to edge out the Intel HD4000 IGP solution by a hair in the low-resolution play through.
One of the greatest stories to have ever been told. Bioshock Infinite puts players in the shoes of Booker DeWitt as he takes on the world in this critically-acclaimed title delivered via Unreal Engine 3.
clip_image006
The game averages 42fps in 1360×768 resolutions and manages to squeeze up to 23.31fps in 1080p.
The reboot of the gaming phenomenon Tomb Raider puts players in Lara Croft’s hiking boots as she explores the ruin of Yamatai in this origins game. Powered by a modified Crystal Engine, the game features TressFX which creates beautifully rendered hair animation.
clip_image008
The new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 flexes its muscle with this game showing an impressive 65fps in our low-resolution test and a good 35fps at 1080p gaming.
Torchlight II is an action-RPG with LAN and online multiplayer support. Represents a very similar load to that of MOBA games and similar titles. This game is set to MAXIMUM details in-game.
clip_image010
Last up is Torchlight II which should be the same as DOTA 2 and other MMO games in terms of load in the system. The new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 delivers an incredible 78fps for low-resolution gaming and a solid 42fps average for 1080p at maximum detail settings with anti-aliasing turned on.
